Children's Rights

Julie strongly believes that we have a responsibility to safeguard our most vulnerable populations. A long-standing advocate for children’s welfare, she is working with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and other agencies to increase efficiency and improve access to services.

As co-chair of the Illinois Legislative Children’s Health Caucus, Julie has been a leader in strengthening child health policy in Illinois.

She has expanded the Newborn Screening Panel to ensure newborns are tested for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and ensures the Dept. of Public Health has the ability to add additional diseases as they see fit.

She protects school-age children by requiring future school buses to have seatbelts, and ensures schools have medications and policies in place to address severe allergic reactions, low blood sugar, or seizures.
