Thank you for choosing me to continue representing you in the Illinois Senate
I am proud to be a bipartisan legislator and a voice for everyone in the 29th District. My focus is on the issues that matter most to the people of our district, the ones that affect our quality of life, our safety, our tax dollars, and the most vulnerable members of our communities.
Your support matters to me. Together we can do what’s right for the 29th District and Illinois.”
julie on the issues
gun control & public safety
Julie is a staunch and consistent proponent of strong and well-enforced gun safety laws. She is proud to have received an “F” rating from the NRA and has never voted in favor of any pro-firearm legislation.
Mental Health Parity
Mental health parity laws are supposed to require health insurers to cover mental health and substance abuse treatment for children. However, mental disability is still regarded differently from physical disability by some social services.
women’s rights
Julie supports the right of women to have access to full reproductive health options and procedures without the involvement of government and regardless of their ability to pay.
tobacco 21
A large Coalition of people came to Julie and asked her to spearhead legislation to raise the age for purchasing tobacco to 21. She championed SB 2323 and helped to change the trajectory of public health in Illinois.
Ethical Government
Despite the passage of various incremental reforms, Illinois has room for improvement in ensuring that state and local government is transparent, fiscally responsible, and ethical.
disability rights
Families of children with developmental disabilities face unique challenges, and to help address them, Julie was a founding member of the Illinois General Assembly’s Special Needs Caucus.
child welfare
Julie strongly believes that we have a responsibility to safeguard our most vulnerable populations.
