Julie strongly believes that we have a responsibility to safeguard our most vulnerable populations. 

As co-chair of Illinois Legislative Children’s Health Caucus, Julie has been a leader in strengthening child health policy in Illinois. 

She has expanded the Newborn Screening Panel to ensure newborns are tested for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and ensures the Dept. of Public Health has the ability to add additional diseases as they see fit. 

She protects school age children by requiring future school buses have seatbelts, and ensures schools have medications and policies in place to deal with severe allergic reactions, low blood sugar, or seizures.
