Every year, healthcare costs continue to rise, forcing families to make impossible choices between putting food on the table and getting the medical care their loved ones need. As State Senator and Chair of the Senate Insurance Committee, Julie has worked tirelessly to bring down the cost of healthcare in Illinois. 

She has passed numerous laws around healthcare access and affordability including:

• Streamlining the prescription drug approval process
• Requiring insurance companies to cover for biomarker testing, seizure detection devices, EpiPens for minors, preventative cancer screenings, and treatment for eating disorders 
• Banning “step therapy” on stage 4 cancer drugs. This means insurers can no longer make patients try cheaper, alternative drugs first. They must cover the medication their doctor prescribed
• Protecting our valued healthcare workers from workplace violence.
